About jANE

Following fifteen years in the fashion industry, designing and curating both clothing and interiors, Jane is now painting.

‘My work represents my physical and emotional response to places I have been and things I have seen, maybe yesterday or years ago.  I seldom work from a sketch as Louise Balaam, who taught me to paint in oils, insisted that… we go out and sketch, then shut the sketchbook and paint. I have had to work hard to stop my design eye coming into a painting too early as it stops my freedom of movement and expression and although I may choose a palette to work from I will also limit the number of colours to avoid my default mode of matching, as with fashion.  However, my preference is tonal, as you will see from this current work.’

Isn’t it funny what life can bring us? For me, a late journey into painting. And it has become a huge part of my life.
